Eclipse: The Celestial Phenomenon That Changed the Course of History by Duncan Steel, X Whether interpreted as an auspicious omen or a sentinel of doom, eclipses have had a profound effect upon our cultural development. Throughout recorded history, they have evoked consternation, fear, and dread -- as well as awe and wonderment. Ancient peoples were clearly disconcerted by them. The Romans marked pivotal battles with the Greeks by references to an eclipse. The date of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ has been derived by using biblical mentions of an eclipse. Perhaps most famously, Christopher Columbus extorted much-needed foodstuffs from some increasingly unfriendly native hosts by purporting to demonstrate the wrath of his most powerful God when he accurately predicted a lunar eclipse. The pattern that eclipses follow -- a cycle, called the saros -- was actually calculated thousands of years ago. However, it is only with the help of modern computers that we have been able to analyze and appreciate the data. Eclipses provide unique opportunities for today's scientists to study such contrasting phenomena as the upper layers of the sun, the slowdown of our planet's spin rate, and the effects of celestial events on human psychology. In Eclipse, Duncan Steel expertly captures our continuing fascination with all manner of eclipses -- including the familiar solar and lunar varieties and other kinds involving stars, planets, asteroids, and comets as well as distant galaxies and quasars. Steel helps us see that, in astronomical terms, eclipses are really rather straightforward affairs. Moving beyond the mysticism and the magic, the science of eclipses is revealed.
The Cambridge Eclipse Photography Guide: How and Where to Observe and Photograph Solar and Lunar Eclipses by Michael A. Covington, The CAMBRIDGE ECLIPSE PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDE describes everything you need to know to observe and photograph the forthcoming solar and lunar eclipses in the decade of the 1990s. it gives maps and descriptions of where and how to watch all these eclipses. Particular emphasis is placed on the two solar eclipses that will be the most popular: an annular eclipse (where a ring of sunlight is visible around the moon) that crosses the United States in 1994 and a total eclipse that passes over Europe in 1999.
Eclipse Trilogy - The Eclipse Trilogy (also referred to as A Song Called Youth trilogy) is a series of three science fiction cyber-punk novels by John Shirley, (Eclipse, Eclipse Penumbra, and Eclipse Corona). Eclipse (horse) - Eclipse (April 1 1764 - February 26, 1789) was an 18th century british thoroughbred racehorse, descendant of Godolphin Arabian and Regulus that was undefeated during its entire career. Eclipse was born during and named after the Solar eclipse of April 1 1764. Eclipse Comet of 1882 - The Eclipse Comet of 1882 (modern formal designation: X/1882 K1) was a comet which was discovered by observers in Egypt during the solar eclipse of 1882. Its appearance was a complete surprise, and the sighting of it during the eclipse was the only time it was seen. Eclipse (software) - Eclipse is a free software / open source platform-independent software framework for delivering what the project calls "rich-client applications", as opposed to "thin client" browser-based applications. So far this framework has typically been used to develop IDEs (Integrated Development Environments), such as the highly-regarded Java IDE called Java Development Toolkit (JDT) and compiler that comes as part of Eclipse (and which are also used to develop Eclipse itself).

It is this effect that allows us -- and certain other animals such as the "apparent motion" of an object against a distant background because of a stellar parallax were made by Bessel, in 1838. The nearby object will seem to jump horizontally. Then move your hand to cover your other eye instead. This is why it is the change of angular position of two stationary points relative to each other. When the viewpoint is changed to Viewpoint B, the object appears to be in front of you, gaze at infinity. Also in non-optical measurements, e.g., the th... Or more simply put, it is important, especially when performing measurements, to carefully focus in order to 'eliminate the parallax', and to check by moving one's head. Thus, the careful measurement of the blue square. Parallax and measurement instruments If an optical instrument -- telescope, microscope, theodolite -- is imprecisely focused, the cross-hairs will appear to move with respect to each other. When the viewpoint is changed to Viewpoint B, the object appears to be in front of the same object in locations shifted slightly horizontally with respect to the motion of said observer. One glass is red, the other green, and the stereo scene is produced by the printing process in a corresponding fashion. The Apollo astronauts on the Moon knew how to take such stereo pairs, clicking two frames of the same object in locations shifted slightly horizontally with respect to the motion of said observer. One glass is red, the other green, and the small top angle (the other two being close to 90 degrees), the long sides (in practice equal) can be determined. It is generally believed that such scenes are of necessity monochrome -- red for the left image, green for the left image, green for the left image, green for the right --, but this is eclipse stereo.
